It is very unusual to be approached by a partner company these days that has a shared understanding ethos and goals as well as having the ability to apply the business model to their own region and have a clear road map for achieving it.

20km south of Alicante lies Santo Pola, where the newly created offices for Zapcat Racing España is located, from there a network of dealers and partner companies across Spain will be introducing Zapcat events and experiences, together with the sale of Zapcat powerboats and the chance to race them in the inaugural Spanish National Zapcat Racing Championships!

Spain has a huge love of all motorsports and history of top performers and world champions in Formula I, WRC and MotoGP to name but a few. The affordability thrills and excitement of Zapcat Racing is guaranteed to excite supporters and new competitors alike.

How do you sum up the challenge of Fistral with it's big surf, huge swells, strong winds, physical punishment, skills and bravery of Zapcat competitors and safety team as well as the thrills and spills which hold the spectators in awe?

Well you can ask the very surprised winner of the Grand Prix Craig Davis, Pilot of Bluesheets I and current two times defending National and Surf Champion "AWESOME RACING!"

Craig went on to say "With the new rules changes and Angry Hornet beating us yesterday in our class, the GP title was wide open, Rob and I loved the difficulty of the conditions and to find out we had won on a count back was great!"

Or you speak to one of the Race Officials and past Champion

"Opening the season at Fistral is a tough ask of all the racers and the safety crew which is one of the reasons we have fewer teams than expected this weekend and only one Rookie team at this stage of the Championships." said Mick Pritchard, Officer of the Day.

Or the winner of Round One, Neil Frazer of Angry Hornet "To beat Craig is always good, to do it in the surf which he loves is even better, I have just taken Sam Healey and Tamsin from Rattler Cider out on an experience, they both loved it but I was being a little cautious as was Steve, I think this cross wind today is going to cause havoc, it may be a case of last crew standing!"

With only a few days to go before the first event of the season at Fistral Beach, Newquay, we have added some very exciting new sponsors as well as a superb evening attraction, the inaugural Rattler Rock Night.

Delays from earlier in the year as well as the gloomy economic conditions had left the organisers and the venue very little time to secure the sponsorship needed ensuring the safe running and promotion of the Zapcat Racing event but the recent weather has been of huge benefit.

“This is the first time I can really recall a sustained period of unseasonal sunny weather together with several bank holidays combining to have a very positive effect on the town and local businesses”  said Nick Webb, Events Manager for the International Surf Centre.

“The thought of losing this event after all the hard work that has been put in by everyone concerned, especially The Fistral Beach Bar, Ann’s Cottage and Britanic Industries, who run the Fistral Surf Centre was just a nightmare."

“The Cornish Cyder Farm has stepped in with the rebranded Cornish Rattler Zapcat Grand Prix & Rattler Rock Night in association with Pampero Especial Rum and we have added to this fantastic package further support from Newquay businesses the Victoria Hotel and Sailors Club.”

For the first time since the season opener in 2008 Zapcat Racing returns as the Gosport Zapcat Grand Prix on 11th & 12th June.

Part of the Celebrate! Gosport Summer Season, the championships will be stopping off for the weekend for Rounds 3 & 4 and show-casing their unique blend of high speed adrenalin fuelled powerboat action combined with a fun family and beach lifestyle event that is free to view and guaranteed to entertain whatever the weather.

Three years ago it was defending National Champion Mick Pritchard who came away with top honours, Mick is still very much involved in the racing these days as the series Officer of the Day and will be keeping order when racing returns in June.
