FINAL ROUNDS OF THE ZAPCAT CELTIC CUP & CITY CHAMPIONSHIP

Two trophies will effectively be decided next weekend when Zapcat Racing arrives in Aberdeen and hits the golden sands of the beach.  With swells of 3.5 foot or more it may even count towards the Zapcat King of the Surf championship too?

Even with a slight swell spectators will be guaranteed some entertainment as the powerboats take to the air!

This is the first time Zapcat Racing has headed this far north and Aberdeen completes the four Grand Prix Celtic Cup competitions of Edinburgh, Prestatyn and Barry Island and the three GP event of the City Championship that has also included tour stops in Belfast and Edinburgh.

Around twenty Zapcat teams are expected to make the very long journey from the South of England to the North East coast of Scotland and bring their unique brand of very exciting, close to shore powerboat racing with plenty of high speed action, spills and thrills to entertain the crowds in this free to view event that has been supported right from the start by Aberdeen City Council.

“After a fantastic Grand Prix event last weekend in Barry Island there will have to be some exceptional racing to top that for excitement, but I have a feeling that the conditions, supporters and venue may deliver exactly that in Aberdeen!” said Martin Jupp Zapcat Racing Event Director.

“We have literally travelled up and down the length and breadth of Britain, several times this year in our 10th Anniversary Season, racing in Scotland, Ireland, Wales and England and it has been very hard on many teams in terms of time and money as many receive very little sponsorship whilst running their own businesses, serving their country in the armed forces or studying for exams.”

“Whilst it has been tough; the teams who have made the journey have received great support, raced at some fantastic venues and there has been a great deal of camaraderie as well as tales of woe and the hours spent in lay-bys repairing trailers!”

Teams to watch out for next weekend include current champions – Bluesheets I in the # 01 Zapcat and local support will go to SeaVacation I & II racing for Scotland and sponsored by Aberdeenshire resident and former racer Sharon Kearsey.

Another notable Aberdeenshire resident, the Lord Provost of Aberdeen Peter Stephen, commented. "It is wonderful that the Zapcat Championship is coming to Aberdeen, this is a beautiful part of Scotland and our seafront is perfect for this type of exciting event.”

“This is a first for the city and I am quite sure that it will attract people from far and wide into Aberdeen. People of all ages will enjoy the spectacle of these high-powered craft competing against each other."
