Blue Sheets Racing Take the Title

The Zapcat Racing National Championship was decided today at Round 13 of at Watergate Bay, Newquay.  Zapcat 03, BlueSheets Racing 1 Craig Davis and Rob Martin were favourites to take the championship going into the penultimate event and securing a place in the days final would cinch the deal.

Team Relentless got off to a storming start, with Zapcat 77, Exe Jets Rob Wickham and Graham Hay were taking high finishes in their heats along with Relentless –Nine Lives, Zapcat 35 Charlie Brickle and Adam Bushrod in their respective divisions.

Zapcat 38, Speedy Hire Daren Ford and Sam Hunka were storming away in their heats with Zapcat 25, Rana Park Neil Fraser and Jeremy Nazarin, fighting out with the second and third places in the championship still in contention.

In the days division 2 final Zapcat 37, Go Commando State of Mind, Richie Lake and Andy Farmer got a fantastic  start and led for the first lap until Zapcat 28, Westgate’s Charles Morris and George Moger undertook them on the back straight. Zapcat 11, BlueSheets Racing 2, Dan Smith and Nathan Parker  followed the move relegating Commando State of Mind to third, with Nine Lives pushing every step of the way to the finish flag. Westgate claimed gold, BlueSheets Racing 2 Silver and Go Commando State of Mind held Nine Lives off to take the Bronze.

The Division 1 final and the Shore dump and Watergate Bay really kicked up  the surf to create some awesome racing conditions. Zapcat 38, Speedy Hire, Daren Ford and Sam hunka got of to a superb start leading  the pack as rivals Zapcat 25 Rana Park and Zapcat 03 BlueSheets Racing following in second and third respectively with nothing to separate them. Heading into the fifth lap disaster struck for leaders Speedy Hire as they were flipped sides ways by a wave in the inshore section just before taking the final lap flag causing a red flag incident and sending both pilot and co-pilot swimming. With enough of the race completed the positions were called Zapcat 25 Rana Park secured the gold medal, Zapcat 03 BlueSheets Racing 1 took silver and Zapcat 49 Randall & Payne Justin Whithorn and Chris Baldwin secured the bronze.

Neil Fraser pilot of Division 1 winning Zapcat Rana Park commented “I’m really pleased to finally have a Gold medal at Watergate Bay, it’s been a long time coming and one I really wanted for the collection.” He continued “I’m really disappointed for Daren of Speedy Hire he had it in the bag and it was so unlucky the wave just took him over, he’ll have something to prove tomorrow which will make the battle for 2nd and 3rd in the championship even more interesting between us!”

The final round of the Zapcat National Championship 2009 will take place tomorrow from 12noon at Watergate Bay, with live streaming on the website- the Championship may have been decided but there’s still a lot more titles up for grabs the action will be awesome.

31 October 2009 (2531 reads)

Ok everyone here goes.... remember this is provisional and as each venue / date is confirmed we will let you know.  As promised there will be a minimum of eight Championship Grand Prix Events, we are however working to provide two extra GP Events as part of the Championship, more news to follow on this soon.

Hopefully this will give everyone a good idea of the planned dates for next year, realistically there shouldnt be too many changes to this calender but please do not start booking time off / holidays or start making any travel / accommodation arrangements just yet, as dates and venues may be subject to change until confirmed.
