Around 30 Zapcat racing teams will return to Bournemouth’s bustling beach this weekend for Rounds 5 & 6 of the Zapcat National Championship.
Bournemouth’s beach provides the perfect location for fast furious action from these feisty little powerboats, with all the action happening right next to the Pier providing the public with an awesome viewing platform straight from the beach.
The 2009 Zapcat National Championship was launched on Bournemouth’s Beach back in May when thousands lined the promenade to make the most of the British weather and all the action. Southampton Based Blue Sheets Racing 1, Zapcat 03 got off to a flying start taking the Grand Prix title but this weekend Rana Park, Zapcat 25 Pilot Neil Fraser (Fleet) and local co-pilot Jeremy Nazarin (Bournemouth) will be looking to put a stop to their winning streak.
“Blue Sheets Racing have had an awesome start to the season, at Bournemouth in May, We managed to catch them at the second event at Watergate but then stalled in surf in the final and lost valuable places,” Comments Rana Park co-pilot Jeremy “The Race Officials are introducing a new course at Bournemouth this time round and hopefully they’ll introduce more of a tactical course and if there’s a bit of swell it will mix things up a bit! We need to get a good start from the line and out think Blues Sheets, a pit lap could be all important in taking a win”
Another hotly contested battle will be between Southampton’s Team Certain Death, Zapcat 21 Luke Wills and Kevin Lott and Current Rookie championship leaders All the Gear, No idea Zapcat 05 from Cornwall, Lawrence Poole and Simon Maconochie.
Certain death are currently just 3 points behind their Rookie rivals and will be hoping that Bournemouth will favour them with fortunate conditions in a bid to take the lead.
Weymouth based Dangerous Brothers, Zapcat 74’s Andy Foster and Ben Eldridge are aiming for a good result in the weekends racing to firmly launch the Bros in to the first division and boost their Team Relentless Points in the team championship.
“The Point system has changed this year and there’s more opportunity to move up and down between the divisions during a weekend. We’re currently sat right on the half way mark in the championship table with only 5 points separating us and a top 10 position, so we’re hoping to get a really good result and secure our place as a division one team. There’s a long way to go in the season and we need consistent results to progress and finish at the top of the championship”
The 27th & 28th of July will see the Zapcat championship compete in rounds 5 & 6 of the 14 round championship, each team will compete in 5 of 16 heats to secure their place in the days final. Racing will begin at 12 on both days with practice from about 11am.
